Definitely, you can’t expect that a game involving plastic mini-figures features cutting-edge graphics, and this is the case with Lego Batman. In my opinion, however, the graphics are much more polished and cleaner than Lego Star Wars. The characters are also similar to any other Lego figure, but it’s surprising just how much personality and emotion they convey through their movements and faces. It’s worth noting that the object edges now appear sharper.  

Gameplay: 4.5

Lego Batman offers plenty that you can do with the thirty levels characterized by collectible studs and secrets. Some let you helm the Batboat, Batmobile, Batwing, or even the villainous equivalent that helps you mix up the pace. Notably, every level offers 10 minikits alongside a red brick to uncover.

These minikits are worth cash and they build a small trophy. The red bricks, on the other hand, help unlock secret features such as invincibility and stud-multipliers. Of the two features, multipliers come out as the most useful. Notably, it will take you more time to collect enough studs to buy and unlock all features, and the game isn’t that complicated without invincibility. This is because in case your character dies, the game doesn’t actually end. Instead, you only lose some money.

Both Robin and Batman have the unique utility suits that they switch up during stages. This way, they get exclusive abilities including magnet shoes and remote control devices that solve puzzles.

Controls: 4.5

The controls are pretty basic, and maneuvering becomes much easier as you get to receive Alfred’s quick messages on-screen in stages where you confront an application and new ability for the first time. They are also fluid since there’s no need to consult a manual or go through walls of texts. Moreover, the simple control schemes help keep the game simple as it has a small assortment of inputs and buttons to use.

Replay Value: 4.0

This game offers lots of replay value due to the thirty story mode levels alongside the freeplay mode to top it off. However, once you’re done solving every puzzle and collecting all of the characters, vehicles, and bricks, there won’t be any reason to come back and replay it. What will bring you back to the game is probably the nostalgia or an urge to play it with a new friend.

Conclusion

Lego Batman is an ideal casual game if you’re looking for a fun time killer. While it may be lacking an online component, the number of unlockable features will keep you glued for hours. It also doesn’t deviate from the Lego formula that’s already familiar. The style also has a lot that you would love and comes with loads of fun due to the numerous places to explore and extras to uncover.
