LEGO® Batman™ 2 Review: Great Game for DC Fans
LEGO® Batman™ 2 is a sequel to the most successful chapters of LEGO video games. In this open-world action-adventure RPG game you have to play as Bruce Wayne and cooperate with Robin, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, Batgirl, and others to fight against Lex Luthor, Joker, and other multiple supervillains. Your primary mission is to thwart plans of Luthor to become the next president of the USA. You can download LEGO® Batman™ 2 for Xbox 360 on Xbox Live.
Graphics – 5/5
LEGO® Batman™ 2 game was released in 2012 and still looks very good due to the successful combination of the proprietary engine of Traveller’s Tales engine and LEGO bricks design. Though the game doesn’t pretend to look realistic, developers managed to present excellent play of lighting and focus. Cut-scenes look very cinematic providing a deep immersion.
Gameplay – 5/5
LEGO® Batman™ 2 gameplay introduces the open world to the LEGO games series for the very first time. Unlike the previous chapter, you are allowed to play not only for Batman and Robin but also for many other superheroes from DC Comics universes. The total number of characters equals 70. You can also test some new gadgets, such as a freezing gun of Robin, the thermal vision of Superman, and power suit of Batman. It’s also important to mention in this LEGO® Batman™ 2 review, that this sequel is the first game of the LEGO series to present voiced dialogues.
During the game, you have to solve various quests, take part in quick-time events, destroy objects to collect coins for upgrades and purchases and construct multiple tools to solve current quests. Some levels are designed in 2,5D platformer style, while others use isometric camera view. Generally, the game looks like a theatrical performance, because you are allowed to look only in one direction and explore only visible locations. Some levels and open world also support traditional 3rd person view.
Controls – 5/5
Controls in the game are brilliantly optimized for consoles, so it’s very convenient to play it with Xbox 360 gamepad. To move the character, you have to use the left stick, and the right stick to aim at targets. Other buttons are used for attacks and special abilities.
Replay Value – 4.5/5
LEGO® Batman™ 2 full game walkthrough takes about 10 hours. It’s worth to complete the story mode, because the story is excellently worked, and the voiced characters tell hilarious jokes all the time. You can play the game solo or in the local/online cooperative modes.
